Charleston Lake Ontario Provincial Park, site 301

Charleston Lake Park site 301 is located at the very entrance to the Shady Ridge Campground. It is probably the furthest from the water, but sits within short distance from the shower and flash toilet. Set your priorities.

The site is shady, meaning that the trees will cover you from the sun on a hot day. At the same time the site surface is mostly soil with not too much grass as it is typical for many Ontario Provincial Parks. The grass does not seem to have enough time to recover from one visit to another.
The site entrance is a bit steep, so your trailer may require some extra horse power to get around. It may also be a drive through site depending on the size of your trailer or camper van.

The site features a standard for this park set consisting from a picnic table and a fire pit. It is quite spacious, offering enough room for a trailer and a shelter, or a party of a tent and a trailer.

From the reverse view you can see that the site is tucked into a corner between two roads. Although the traffic is not that busy, the privacy is still below average for Charleston Lake Park.

This image features the view of the dumpster at the Shady Ridge Compound entrance. If you don't mind the view, it offers some convenience: you don't have to lock your garbage in the car for the night. And the shower/toilet facility is just past the dumpsters.

The park is set in the mature woods with a lot of shade and beautiful roads and trails around the park.

Charleston Lake Ontario Provincial Park canoe rentals

And last but definitely not least, our favourite activity here is canoeing. The lake is beautiful, and it offers significant surface with sophisticated shoreline to explore. Unless you bring your own canoe, you can always rely on the park to rent one.
