Rideau River Ontario Provincial Park is located across the river from Kemptville ON. It is relatively small campground with less than 200 sites, all in the wooded area.
Path along the water. River on the left, campsites on the right. |
View from the path. |
Neither site has waterfront. There is rather a walking path along the shore connecting all parts of the park.
The boat launch. Boat trailer parking nearby. |
Despite its small size, the park has a lot to offer: boat launch, canoe rental, two small beaches, restrooms in short walking distance form any site.
The park is very much family oriented. The beaches are shallow and well suited for children, not necessarily for adults. There are also two playgrounds being updated and well maintained season after season.
As any other provincial park the Rideau River Park is open for day use and gets busy on weekends. You might as well enjoy maintained lawns, grills and picnic tables in day use areas.
The park is within an hour drive from downtown Ottawa. The Fallowfield Park & Ride lot is within 30 minute drive. This may be especially useful for campers visiting the Capital on Canada Day. There is no downtown traffic allowed in Ottawa on Canada Day. On the other hand free buses circulate all night long.
